About eczema (or dermatitis)

This article about eczema (also called dermatitis) gives a complete overview of this dermatological condition.  What is eczema ? What are its symptoms ? What treatments exists ? How can it be relieved ?

What is eczema (or dermatitis)?

Eczema is a skin disorder characterized by a local inflammatory response, generally associated with allergic responses. There are many forms and causes for eczema. It can range from a simple short-term local irritation to frequent and painful skin eruptions which are sometimes incapacitating. There are many different types of eczema: atopic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, dyshidrotic eczema (pompholyx), acute vesiculobullous hand eczema…

What are the symptoms of eczema (or dermatitis)?

Eczema is characterized by more or less thick red patches on the skin, thin vesicles, scales, itching (pruritus) and dry skin. These lesions can also lead to the creation of cracks. This disease generally evolves by flare-ups, interrupted by phases of inactivity.

What treatments exist for eczema (or dermatitis)?

There is no existing treatment to cure eczema, only treatments for its symptoms. These treatments can be:
  • local (antiseptic, topical corticosteroids, silver nitrate, hydrating products)
  • systemic (antihistamines, corticosteroids, ciclosporin and possibly antibiotics in case of secondary infections; retinoids and immunosuppressive drugs can also be prescribed for chronic hand eczema).
Medicinal treatments often have side effects which limit their use. Other approaches exist, like water cures or PUVA or PUVB phototherapies.

How to relieve eczema (or dermatitis)?

The Skintifique Hydrating Gel Plus HS moisturizes and soothes atopic or eczema skin. It gives excellent results, either used on its own or together with systemic treatments. People suffering from eczema who use this product have seen a noticeable improvement of the state and comfort of their skin. These results are coherent with the scientific analyses which were lead on people having tested the Hydrating Gel Plus HS: regular measures of the hydration, follow-up of the evolution of the skin’s aspect, etc. Different items explain these results can be explained by different items. First of all, the Hydrating Gel Plus HS has a high level of glycerine. Also, the innovative molecular structure of this cream allows for a lasting hydrating and soothing effect. Lastly, this product contains a limited number of ingredients, which were all selected carefully, so as to minimize the risk of unwanted reactions. The Hydrating Gel Plus HS (as well as all Skintifique products), does not contain any paraben, silicone, mineral oil, fragrance or EDTA. This gel is also free of corticosteroids and cortisone.

What are the results of Skintifique products on eczema?

Below are photos of a woman suffering from eczema on both hands due to a Nickel allergy. After using the Protective Cream HPS to protect her skin against contact with Nickel, the Moisturizing Lotion HP to moisturize her skin by day, and the Hydrating Gel Plus HS to repair her skin by night, a very clear improvement can be seen.
