Dr Praveen Vemula

Dr Praveen Vemula is a faculty at the Institute for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine (inStem), in Bangalore, India.

A key focus of Vemula’s bioengineering laboratory is the development of platform technologies in the areas of biomaterials, drug delivery, and cell therapy to address unmet medical needs. In particular, Vemula and his team have been developing self-assembled hydrogels based biomaterials for clinical applications. He has been awarded many times with recognitions, including the prestigious Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the MIT Business Plan Competitions. He has been a national topper to receive prestigious Ramalingaswami Re-Entry Fellowship from Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. His work has been highlighted in the print/electronic media including, CNN, Newsweek, the New York Times, Los Angeles Times, the Hindu, the Times of India and other. Prior to his current position, he has multiple years or research experience at the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He previously conducted research in self-assembled materials at the City College of New York, which he joined after obtaining PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Indian Institute of Science, India.
