Chromium allergy

Chromium allergy affects 1 to 3% of the population. Hypersensitivity to metals (Nickel, Chromium…) is very common although many people are not aware that they are allergic.

This allergy causes numerous symptoms. The most common are contact dermatitis or eczema. When skin comes in contact with objects or pollutants containing Chromium, it breaks up in rashes that can be very painful.

Many everyday objects contain Chromium: leather items (wristbands, shoes…), coins, telephones, keys, jewelry… As a result, people with Chromium allergy often suffer from rashes that affect their everyday life.

Finally, it should be emphasized that one usually is not born with Chromium allergy: it is acquired through cumulative exposure to the metal. The more one is exposed to objects or pollutants which contain Chromium, the more chances to develop the allergy. This is why even people who are not allergic should beware of Chromium risks, and protect their skin from this metal!
