When your skin reacts after being in contact with objects containing metals that irritate the skin such as Nickel, Chromium and Cobalt, you can ask a doctor or a dermatologist to do a metal allergy test. It is called a Patch Test (contact hypersensitivity allergy test). Small quantities of potential allergens (including Nickel, Chromium and Cobalt) are applied to the skin generally on the upper back. After 48 hours, the dermatologist removes the patches. If the skin is inflamed, then you may be allergic to metal.
