About psoriasis

On this page, you will find information about psoriasis: what is it? What are the symptoms of psoriasis? How can it be treated? How can psoriasis be relieved?

What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic disease of the immune system. It is characterised by a localised inflammatory response and by the epidermis renewing too fast (in a few days instead of a few weeks usually). This leads to an accumulation of dead cells at the surface of the skin.

What are the symptoms of psoriasis?

Psoriasis clinical manifestations are most commonly the appearance of more or less thick red patches on the skin, covered by scales. The patches can evolve and lead to the apparition of very painful lesions, like cracks which can be more or less deep. This is a relapsing disease which evolves by sudden flare-ups.

Some factors can be aggravating like stress, smoking, or skin lesions (like sun burns).

How can psoriasis be treated?

There is no treatment today which can cure psoriasis permanently, but there are a few treatments which can help control the symptoms. This is usually done through an acute treatment, which alternates with maintenance phases.

Local treatments

  • Topical corticosteroids: to fight against the localised inflammation. However, there is the risk of a bounce effect when the treatment is stopped, and using corticosteroids over a long period of time can weaken the skin.
  • Vitamin D3 analogues: they can act on the multiplication and maturation of the keratinocytes.
  • Salicylic acid: for its keratolytic effect
  • Hydrating products: to soften the skin and help calm the inflammation and the itching.

Treatments by phototherapy

The idea is to expose the skin to UVA or UVB depending on the localisation and the extent of the lesions. These treatments are often effective but can be used for a limited time to avoid the increase of skin cancer risk.

Systemic treatments

Different strategies can be considered by the medical profession to treat psoriasis attacks, generally using retinoids, methotrexate, ciclosporin, or bio-therapies. These treatments are often accompanied by side effects, which can limit their use.

How can psoriasis be relieved?

Gel Hydratant Plus HS - Hydrating Gel Plus

Many persons suffering from psoriasis use the Hydrating Gel Plus HS because they have noticed a real improvement in their skin condition and comfort. These observations are also coherent with precise scientific analysis lead with some testers (regular hydration measures, follow-up of the evolution of the skin’s aspect, etc.). For a moving testimonial, see for instance Xavier’s interview by clicking here.

Skintifique has developed the Hydrating Gel Plus HS: it is an excellent hydrating and soothing product which shows excellent results, either on its own or combined with systemic treatments.

These results can be explained by the following elements: a high glycerine content, a lasting hydrating and soothing effect thanks to the very innovative molecular structure of this gel, and a limited number of carefully selected ingredients which minimises the risks of unwanted side effects.
