Dr Jeff Karp, co-founder of Skintifique, gave an inspiring talk this month at Café des Sciences Boston about Simple Innovation Tools Work in Science…or Anywhere
Dr Jeff Karp is the co-funder of Skintifique…but not only! He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He also has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters and has given more than 200 national and international invited lectures and has 65 issued or pending patents… It is not surprising that he has been recognized by MIT’s Technology Review Magazine as being one of the top innovators in the world (3 members from his laboratory have received this award).
His talk at Café des Sciences was about innovation, and more precisely, about two of the most efficient tools used by his bio-research lab to solve problems in innovative ways, on a continuing basis:
- The first tool is “Bioinspiration” which is defined as “the art and discipline of adapting proven-effective techniques, materials, designs and concepts from nature to provide the foundation for a bold new human-designed solution”. He adds “so we can use bioinspiration to help us come up with new ideas to tackle tough problems”.
- The second tool is “Radical Simplicity”. It is about “the art and discipline of reducing a problem to its essence”.
According to Dr Jeff Karp, these two tools can be used by anybody, whatever their field is. Actually, these two tools has been the founding principles at Skintifique. Aware of the fact that nature is an endless source of wisdom and the ideal blueprint for health, Skintifique’s products has been developed according to the “Bioinspiration” principle. Moreover, Skintifique’s products are consistent with the “Radical Simplicity” principle, since the products only contain active ingredients that are proven to be effective and with excellent safety profiles. That is why the four products in the Skintifique range contain between five and thirteen ingredients – no more.
